REFLECTION

Throughout this module, I have learnt about the different design principles and how to effectively utilise them in design. I also learnt how to analyse an artwork, using my knowledge of the design principles as well as the knowledge I have gained by researching and looking at numerous visual references.

As someone who loves and appreciates art, I really enjoyed the process of creating all of my artworks as it helped me express myself and my emotions. While I found all of the projects interesting, I think the exercises were the most fun as I decided to create artworks for some of my favourite songs. On the other hand, I believe I enjoyed working on my self-portrait the least as I am not very confident in myself.

This module has made me rediscover my love for design and art in general. While I have always loved and appreciated art, I always found drawing challenging so I only admired it from afar. Yet, these 14 weeks have made me realise that I am capable of creating artworks that I am proud of.

Something that has changed after my learning journey is the fact that I am now able to objectively view art pieces and analyse them. However, I still believe that art is felt rather than thought/understood.

All in all, I am happy to say that Design Principles was one of the modules I have enjoyed the most throughout my entire university learning experience. Besides enjoying learning about design and creating art, I also appreciated the way Ms. Noranis conducted her classes, and the freedom she allowed us. Having no limitations, as well as Ms. Noranis being very understanding and therefore not pressuring us, has made this experience lighter on me mentally and physically.
